Stuff Bhindi/Okra is one of the popular Indian Vegetarian dish.It goes best with plain rice and dal or you can have it with roti. The main ingredients of this recipe is bhindi, which is stuffed with spicy and tangy masala. At home I often make bhindi in different ways. Another dish, named Bhindi Posto is one of my favorite and it’s also a very well known dish to all bengalis. Sometime I just fry the bhindi with different types of seasonings.
In case you are aware of, Bhindi has lots of health benefits. It is in low calories and high in fiber and okra or Bhindi helps to manage blood pressure. Okra contents high level of vitamins like A,B (B1,B2,B6) & C and it also helps to boosts your immune system, prevent kidney disease etc. Hence having bhindi part of our regular diet is a prudent choice for anyone at any age.
Today I will show you how easily you can make Stuff Bhindi/Okra at your home.It is a very simple dish. The only preparation that you have to do is, slit the okra and stuff them with spice mix. There is nothing else to chop or prep.
In this recipe people use different spices in different portion, someone can use grated coconut and chickpea or besan or gram flour. The taste of the recipe varies according to stuffing.
When you prepare this recipe you have to be careful not to overcook the okra. This is the process that I generally follow to make sure my okra is properly cooked. I start cooking the okra in very low flame. If you cook it in high flame it will get burned. I always place the okra in single layer in a large pan, if your cooking pan is very small and you end up stacking the okra , they won’t cook evenly.
Below is the step by step recipe of this quick meal.
- Okra(Cut and Slit)
- 2-3 Tablespoon Besan (Gram-flour)
- ½ Teaspoon Cumin Seeds
- ½ Teaspoon Amchur Powder/Chat Masala
- ⅓ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
- ½ Teaspoon Red Chili Powder
- ½ Teaspoon Garam Masala Powder
- Chopped Green Chili & Garlic
- Salt(as needed)
- Oil(For fry)
- Take a bowl add all ingredients, except Okra, cumin seeds and oil.Now Mix it properly and keep it aside.
- Wash the bhindi and let it dry, you can use paper towel to pat dry them.Now cut the each bhindi or okra lengthwise, without cutting through the entire length.Do this process with each okra and keep them separately.
- Take one okra and stuff with prepare masala.Repeat the process with remaining okra /bhindis. Make sure that stuff the bhindi/okra with generous amount of masala.Keep that aside.
- Heat oil in a skillet in medium flame, add oil .When the oil is hot enough add cumin seed and than place the bhindi/okra in a single layer, fry for 2-3 minutes, then reduce the flame and cover the skillet.
- After few minutes later flip the bhindi/okra very carefully and cook it for sometime.
- Toss the bhindi /okra every 2-3 min in low-medium flame.It will take 15-20 minutes.
- Now your yummy stuff bhindi/okra is ready. Serve it with plain rice and dal.You can also serve it with roti or paratha.
